2 Peter 1:4 KJV
[4] “whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
What a joy it is to be saved by the grace of God! If you have this assurance, then you know what it is like to live with the joy of salvation. I am so thankful that the Lord had more in store for His children than just saving us from Hell. He loves each one of us and has given us far more than just fire insurance.
Our verse tells us that He has given us exceeding great and precious promises! Promises such as the Holy Spirit, eternity in Heaven with Him, and the blessed hope of seeing our Savior face-to-face one day. We are blessed to have promises that we can enjoy in this life and in eternity to come. All of the promises of God were given to us when we received His Divine nature at the moment of salvation.
Peter closes this verse by not only reminding us of God’s promises, but also of the great escape we have experienced. Through Jesus Christ, we have “escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” Thank God we are no longer slaves to sin. Jesus is not only victorious, but He has given the victory to everyone who has put their trust in Him. We need to remember that when the Lord saved us, He not only saved us from Hell, but thank God, He saved us from sin.
There are many today who are living in the prison of sin. They cannot find peace and rest because they have never met Christ. Sinners will try anything in the world to find satisfaction in this life. They will try drugs and alcohol, only to see that it leaves them shackled to needles and the bottle. Others will try a life of perversion only to find that it leaves them empty and ruined. Some try to find escape through religion, believing it will bring them happiness and peace in life. Religion is one of the deepest dungeons of prison in which a person can be bound.
However, there is good news! All of the things I just mentioned are terrible holding cells in the prison of Satan, but many have been set free from these strongholds of life. Those who have looked to Calvary have been set free from the chains of sin and found new life in Christ. They have escaped the world, the flesh, and the Devil, no longer bound as a slave to them. They are part of the great escape and now live in victory over these enemies. Dear reader, if you have escaped these enemies, do not return to the bondage of sin. Live in victory and help others to escape the prison of corruption that is in this world.
