“The Chief Corner Stone”

1 Peter 2:6 KJV

[6] “Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: And he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.”

Peter is quoting from Isaiah 28:16 in our verse today. Isaiah wrote this when the nation was in trouble. The moral decay was at an all-time high, and they were about to be overtaken by the Assyrians. It looked as if the people of God had no hope, and the foundation of their faith was about to crumble. However, they received sweet consolation that the foundation of God would stand sure! The faith of those who followed Jehovah was not in a nation or organized religion but in the one who created this world!

Dear reader, let me encourage you that the same is true today! America is in real trouble, and the same sins are running rampant in our nation today. As a country, we are slowly crumbling. Moral decay and spiritual bankruptcy are at an all-time high. However, our hope is not in our political or economic systems but in Jesus Christ! We have a Chief Corner Stone that cannot be removed!

In Peter’s day, the church was under great persecution, but she survived and thrived. All the fury of Hell and the power of Rome could not stop the church. Today, Hell is defeated, and Rome has fallen, but the church marches on! How is that possible? It is possible because we have a Chief Corner Stone that cannot be defeated.

The chief corner stone is the stone that bears the most weight. It is the part of the foundation that the entire building depends upon. Without the corner stone, the building will not be able to stand. The greater the stone, the greater the building. Think about the church today. She is still alive and well, reaching souls and proclaiming the gospel because we have a Corner Stone that bears all the weight we will ever face. The church will not fail because Jesus never fails. All the promises, the principles, and the prophecies of the Bible were built on the Corner Stone! Peter declares Him to be precious, and He certainly is precious to us. Thank God that we do not have to carry the weight of the church because our Chief Corner Stone will carry it for us.
