“One Day Made All the Difference”

 2 Peter 3:8 KJV

[8] “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

The building of the ark took a long period of time. To many, it seemed unnecessary and foolish. We know that God did not need over a century to complete the building of the ark, because He could have immediately spoken an ark into existence. This period of time was God’s window of mercy on a lost world. The Lord was giving man time to repent and believe the message. This proves that God loved the world and did not want to bring destruction on mankind. God wants to show mercy to sinners if they will repent of their sins.

The years it took to build the ark also showed God’s patience. God was longsuffering with mankind. He could have wiped them off the face of the earth without warning, but instead, He patiently warned them. Men lived for decades hearing the message of impending judgment that was to come upon the earth. They also heard the message of grace that Noah found in the eyes of the Lord.

Peter reminds believers not to be ignorant of God’s timing. God is never late, and God is never early. He is always right on time! God will keep His promise no matter how long we have to wait. One day made the difference regarding the flood. It happened exactly the way He said it would, and in His perfect time. May this serve as a reminder to us not to get ahead of the Lord. We must trust His plan and wait with patience for Him to perform it. God’s promises should remind us that God is faithful. Ignore the scoffers and the mockers who make light of His Word. We see throughout the Bible that their day of judgment is coming if they do not repent. God may patiently wait, but He will surely act. God’s clock is not like ours, and He will not be rushed by man.

One day, the Lord is going to come and reign on this earth. The curse will be lifted, and it will be a time like the world has never witnessed before. There will be peace and tranquility as the King of Glory reigns from the Holy City. Can you imagine what those days will be like? The desert is going to bloom like a rose, and the entire earth will be filled with the knowledge of God. There will be no wars during that time, and the Devil will be locked up in the bottomless pit while the entire world sings the praises of the Lamb upon the throne. What a day that will be!
