2 Peter 2:9 KJV
[9] “the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:”
The Bible is filled with powerful accounts of God delivering His people from impossible circumstances. When it looked like there was no way, it was because there truly was no way, but God made a way. He alone is the Way. The phrase “knoweth how” reminds us of God’s perfect wisdom and unfailing ability. Nothing is too hard for Him, and nothing is impossible. He is fully capable of handling any problem that comes our way. He knows when we are facing hard times. It may seem as if He is unaware, but our verse teaches us otherwise. He knows what we are going through, and He knows how to get us through the trials of life.
Peter uses the word “temptations” to refer to the trials and tests that we face in life. In this verse, he assures believers that God will take care of His own. Deliverance is neither accidental nor uncertain when it comes to our Heavenly Father. He loves His children and is committed to watching over them. We can find comfort in that truth when we face life’s hardships. God keeps His promises, and He will bring deliverance in His perfect timing. We must remember to be patient during our time of testing.
Our responsibility is to remain faithful to His will. It is easy to become distracted or discouraged during difficult seasons, but we must not doubt God’s ability to sustain us. Instead, we should go to Him in earnest prayer, seeking His comfort and strength. When times of doubt arise, remember to lean on the shoulder that has never failed. Look back in your life and see the mighty hand of God. Take the time to reflect on the moments where He brought deliverance into your life.
At the same time, this verse carries a warning: God will reserve the unjust for judgment. Those who have spread false lies and turned people away from the truth will face the consequences one day. God will not allow the unjust to go unpunished. However, we cannot afford to act like the heathen when troubles come into our lives. We must act according to God’s plan, not our own. We must trust that He knows what is best for us. Turning away from Him in times of trouble only deepens our struggles. These are the times we need to walk closely with Him and allow Him to guide our footsteps along the way. Stay faithful, trust His power, and remember that our God will deliver again
