“It Still Pays To Do Right”

1 Peter 2:15 KJV

[15] “For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:”

The expression “put to silence” means to muzzle. When we decide to live godly lives in the face of an ungodly society, we can stop the mouths of fools. The agenda of our society leans toward denying God and dismissing anything and everything that reminds them of Him. They do not like to retain God in their knowledge. In America, the wicked both rule and rage in our government, schools, and business world.

As believers, we want to reach this godless society with the gospel, but we will not do that by fighting against this society on a carnal level. While we must not give up our freedom, we must take the right stand with the right spirit. We must not allow patriotism to override our Christianity.

As a red-blooded American, I believe in fighting for our children and grandchildren’s future. I do not believe in giving over the next generation’s liberties to socialists and communists. Our forefathers fought to their deaths so we could raise our families in this great nation. May we never forget the brave men and women who put their lives on the line for our country. I still say, “Let freedom ring” in this nation!

However, we must remember that, as believers, we are not here to fulfill the American dream. Our goal is to help this lost world see the freedom that America can offer them. We must point this pagan society back to God. We will not do that by marching in the streets but by preaching in the streets. We will do that by being a bright light in a dark world. We will win this heathen society by our well-doing. The world needs to see Jesus in us. God help us to live and lead holy lives before an ungodly generation.

The bottom line is that no matter how bad this world gets, it still pays to do right. God sees how we live and how the world treats us. The will of God for every believer is to get up each morning and do well for the glory of God. Do well on the job, at home, and in your daily activities. Do well when you are going into town and living before sinners. Do well when this world scoffs at you and makes fun of you. Don’t get bitter and frustrated at a society bent on defying God. Remember that the Lord will hold them, and all of us, accountable in the end. Let them say whatever they want, but we can stop their foolish ranting by doing well. It still pays to live for God and do right. Be determined in your heart to do well.
