“Holy Men of God”

2 Peter 1:21 KJV

[21] “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

Whenever I read this verse, I understand that Peter is referring to those who were involved in penning the Bible. The men whom the Holy Spirit moved upon were not perfect men, but they were holy men of God. God gave His Word to men who had walked with Him. We have a Holy Book given to us by the Holy Spirit, who moved upon holy men of God.

I think about not only the men who were inspired to write it but also those who have been called to preach it. Think about the men of God who have labored in the Word of God down through the years. They are not on the same level as those who were inspired to write the Word of God, but I am pointing out the fact that the standard has not changed. The Lord uses holy men of God.

Now, some men have changed over the years. Some have fallen into sin, and others have compromised the Bible and their convictions. However, there are those who have remained faithful. I am glad that we still have holy men of God who have remained unwavering. My life has been spared many times because a holy man of God preached the Bible to me.

There are those who haven’t been privileged to hear Spirit-filled preaching as we have. They have never been exposed to men who live consecrated lives. They do not know the difference between a man who preaches and a holy man of God who preaches with power. I feel sorry for a generation that has been led to believe that a preacher can live carnally and still have the power of God on his life.

Liberal and contemporary preachers have fooled people into thinking that they can preach and not be held to a higher standard. They have no dress standards, no music standards, and no standard of conduct in their daily lives. You would never know they were a preacher if you observed them in public. It is as if they do everything they can to avoid the appearance of being a preacher. These are not holy men of God. If you know a holy man of God, then I don’t even have to describe him to you. A holy man of God is a man of prayer. He is a man who has a burden for souls and is full of the Word of God. A holy man of God is not a carnal man attempting to stay up-to-date with the times. Holy men of God are men of conviction and often loathed by those who despise holy living. They are labeled as legalistic and pharisaic for their beliefs. The Lord says that they are holy!
