1 Peter 5:11 KJV
[11] “To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”
I like this verse because Peter gives glory to the God of all grace, who deserves our praise, and I am sure that you will agree with me that God deserves all the glory that we could ever give Him in this life. Our purpose on earth is to bring honor and glory to Him who loves us and gave His Son to die for us. We are to honor and serve God, but we must also glorify Him.
There should be a series of questions that we ask ourselves every day. Do I live my life in a way that glorifies my Creator? Do the words I say glorify His name? Do my actions and deeds bring honor and glory to His name? Do the places I go and the people I associate with bring glory to God? Do I dress in a manner that glorifies God? Do my motives bring glory to God? Does my worship glorify God?
These are serious questions that we cannot afford to avoid. Life is not about me bringing attention to myself, but bringing attention to the One who created me and gave His Son to die for me. If we live every day to bring glory to God with a pure heart, then we will fulfill God‘s purpose in our lives. It will change the way we think and act if we live solely for the glory of God.
Peter also mentions the word dominion in this verse. God is worthy, and He will receive all glory and dominion regardless of whether we glorify Him or not. However, when it comes to our lives, God will not impose Himself on us. He gives us the right to choose whether or not we will glorify Him and allow Him to have dominion in our lives.
If we give the Lord control, we will glorify Him in our lives. Too many people want to run their own lives instead of surrendering control to Him. When a person has completely yielded his life to the Lord, this verse can be a personal prayer. We can say to the Lord, “To Him be glory and dominion forever and ever,” and mean it on an intimate level! Peter is giving us a great verse to honor the King of the Ages, but it is also a practical truth we should apply in our daily lives. The Lord deserves all the glory that we can give Him, and He deserves to have full reign and control in our lives. Dear reader, we must examine our motives and make sure that we live for the glory of God.
