“Let Them Make Fun”

2 Peter 3:3 KJV

[3] “knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,”

We are living in a society marked by skepticism, moral compromise, and opposition to divine truth. The world mocks and ridicules Christianity. They despise the teaching of the Bible and the message of the Gospel. They love to make light of its message, because they do not like to retain God in their knowledge.

The phrase “there shall come” teaches us about the growing emergence of these scoffers in the last days. The closer we get to Christ’s return, the more routine it will become to hear people laugh at the coming judgments of the last days. Hollywood has no problem making movies with their distorted views of the last days. They love to talk about apocalyptic subjects and the end of the world, always portraying a man as the hero in the end. They want us to believe that man will save the world and make it a better place. They depict a superhero coming out of nowhere, delivering the world from impending judgment that could wipe humanity off the face of the earth.

The reason behind all of this is that men who do not know God will worship themselves. They will declare themselves as the great deliverer. They are blind to the fact that they are helpless and laugh at their need for a God who is invisible to them. These scoffers see no need for a Savior or a God. They mock His name and reject His redemption just like they did in days of old.

However, the Bible has a message for these scoffers. They may be walking after their own lust today, but one day they will laugh no longer. Hell is full of scoffers who rejected God’s grace and faced His judgment. In the end, God will have the last laugh, but it will not be funny. God will send a deliverer, but not a superhero. It will be the Savior! The Lord Jesus Christ will come back as the King of Glory, and He will set the record straight. He will bring sweet deliverance to this earth and reign for one thousand years!

I made the statement while preaching many years ago that Jesus would reign on this earth for one thousand years. After the service, I was approached by a man who laughed at me because of that statement. I can truthfully say that it did not shake me for one second. I believe the Bible, and no amount of scoffing will change what God has written. Dear reader, I want to encourage you to keep sounding the message of the Gospel in these last days. Some may laugh at it, but many will believe and receive it. Just let them make fun and be faithful until He calls you home.
