“We Need the Reminders”

2 Peter 3:1 KJV

[1] “This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:”

It is possible to have a pure mind and a bad memory. A believer can have a genuine faith, but over time, their memory can fade, and convictions can weaken under pressure. Human nature tends toward forgetfulness, so we need to be reminded of the Word of God. That is why daily Bible reading is so important in our lives. It is also why we need to faithfully attend Sunday School and church.

God uses teachers and preachers to stir up our remembrance. The word “stir” means to “arouse, to excite, to enthuse.” Teaching and preaching bring the truths of God’s Word to our minds. There is nothing like going to church and hearing the Word of God. It strengthens the inner man and helps us to go on for God. I enjoy the times when a preacher gets plugged in while preaching the Bible, and my heart gets full during the sermon.

What we learn and know helps us to stay strong for the Lord. Spiritual growth is not only about learning new things but also about recalling what we have learned. We need to ask ourselves this question: “Where would we be today if it weren’t for those reminders along life’s way?” There is no telling how many pitfalls we missed in life because we attended a Sunday School class one particular Sunday. We had listened to the teacher every week, but God knew that on this certain Sunday, we needed a reminder that would spare us great heartache. How about the times we went to church and the preacher preached a familiar and timely truth that helped us over the next hilltop of life?

God is so gracious to give us a Book that never changes and helps us learn how to live, so we can continue to practice what is right. In a day when many are looking for something new, allow me to remind you to study what has been tried and proven. Stay with the doctrines and principles of the Bible. They are timeless and never change, regardless of what is happening in this world.

Do not be misled by some new doctrine. Do not get caught up in a man’s personality or popularity. We need to take note when people start straying from the Bible. By the grace of God, I want to stay with what I have been taught from the blessed old Book. Remember that preachers are not perfect, but the Book we preach from is. Of course, I’m talking about the King James Bible and not some other perversion of God’s Word. Men may deny it, try to change it, or even make fun of it, but the 1611 King James Bible is the Word of our God. I say this without apology and will believe it until I die.
