“A Preacher of Righteousness”

2 Peter 2:5 KJV

[5] “and spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;”

Noah lived in a generation marked by violence, corruption, and spiritual rebellion. Noah did not have a church to attend, a Bible to read, or a pastor to reach out to for encouragement when times were tough. The judgment of God was looming over society in a way they had never seen before. The world was not getting better but growing more wicked by the day.

We know, according to this verse, that Noah’s role in society extended far beyond building the ark. The Lord declared him to be a preacher of righteousness. Noah spent decades constructing the ark, but he also stood as a faithful witness to God’s standard of holiness. Noah not only performed this task verbally with his message, but he was also a visible witness. He simply practiced what he preached. The world not only heard about their wickedness before God, but they saw a godly example.

How did Noah display righteousness before this lost society? He did it by his obedient action to God’s command. He lived a life of faith and obedience toward God, and the world watched it happen. The end result is that God did not spare the old world, but He saved Noah and his family because they believed His Word and obeyed His will. We need more preachers like Noah today. The world is tired of the so-called preachers who want to be cool and trendy. We need men of God who will stand up and raise the standard of righteousness, pointing people toward the holiness of God.

The problem with the world today is that we don’t have as many preachers of righteousness as we used to. We have many men who call themselves preachers, but they seem to be more interested in promoting themselves, allowing worldliness into the church rather than trying to keep it out. God gives us men of integrity, men of principles, and men of character. We need men with a backbone, not wimpy, whiny preachers who are self-absorbed. We need preachers who will spend more time praying in secret and less time posting on social media. Noah stands as a model of a preacher who was a worker for God and not someone who tried to fit in with the crowd. We need men who will be voices for God in this generation, and not men who have become echo chambers of the past. Pray that your preacher will always hold the line and preach it straight in these last days. He needs your prayers!
