2 Peter 1:20 KJV
[20] “knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.”
I’m thankful that we have a Bible in these last days. As believers, we understand that the Word of God is our guide for daily living. It is more accurate and up-to-date than any newspaper that has come off the presses. The Internet is still trying to catch up with our Bible in its latest news and events. It is for this reason that we do not look to the world for our counsel, but rather to the Word of God.
We also know that the Bible is clear in its teaching and doctrine. We have a pure Word of God that has absolutely no errors within its pages. Man may debate the Bible and disagree with it, but the Word of God is the final authority. Man is without excuse whenever it comes to the Word of God, because the Bible gives him the light needed for the hour in which he is living.
It also tells him about the things that are to come. Bible prophecy is history in advance. If Satan cannot get a man to doubt God’s Word, then he will try to hinder him from reading it. One of the ways he does this is by trying to convince him that there are other interpretations of the Word of God. He will go outside the bounds of the Scripture to convince others that God has said something that He did not say.
The Lord is very clear in His Word to us. We must take the Bible at face value and compare Scripture to Scripture. The Bible does not contradict itself in its teaching. While there may be many different applications to a text, there is always just one interpretation of it. The Lord gave His Word for all to read and understand. Beware of the man who would try to convince you that he has some special interpretation from God. This man is a false prophet.
In fact, the Bible is how we fact-check those who preach from it. If someone is teaching something contrary to the Bible, then we should reject their teaching. We should not be swayed by their personality or charisma. Do not follow someone because the crowd is following them. Follow the teaching and instructions given to you in the Bible.
Finally, remember that the Lord made His Word open to all who hear and believe. He does not give men special revelations or interpretations. He gave us all the same Book, and He has not changed His mind about what He wrote. I’m glad we have a Bible to read, understand, and use to teach others.
