“Life and Godliness”

2 Peter 1:3 KJV

[3] “according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:”

The Lord is good to all of His children. You have never met a child of God who said, “I wish I had never gotten saved.” I have never heard this statement in all of my years as a Christian. I have heard many people say, “If I had known that being saved was this wonderful, I would have gotten saved sooner.” Why is this so? The reason is that God is so good to all of His children. He has no favorites, yet he treats each one of us as if we were His only child.

Peter says that He has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. That means that our Heavenly Father has given us everything we need to live for Him. What a blessing to know that He did more than save our souls from Hell. He gave us His Divine power through the Holy Spirit so we can live the way He would have us to in this world. Dear reader, you can live a victorious Christian life because you now possess His Divine nature internally. While we may live in this flesh, we have an inner man that has been born again. We are living with two natures, but the spiritual man can overcome the carnal man through the power of the Holy Spirit.

The happiest person that I have ever met was not just a saved person. I have met some pretty miserable saved people. I will go a step further to say that the most miserable people that I have met in life were not lost people, but those who were living in a backslidden condition. They were believers who knew the joy of salvation but went back to living the old life. The evidence of salvation is that they cannot enjoy their sin like they once did when they were lost.

The happiest people I have ever met were believers who were walking with God every day of their lives. That does not mean they were living a perfect life or doing everything right. It means that they were living every day in a close relationship with the Lord. If we allow His Divine power to work in our lives, then we can enjoy all that God has for us that pertains to life and godliness. The peace He gives us as we lay our heads down at night and awaken with the knowledge that His mercies are new every morning, as well as asking for forgiveness when we fail, knowing that He is ready to forgive and restore that fellowship again and again, is priceless. What a joy knowing that we can say no to sin and live a life that pleases Him. My life will never be perfect down here, but it can be pleasing to God. How can I be sure? Because He has given me His Divine power to live a life that He will be pleased with.
