“Like Precious Faith”

2 Peter 1:1 KJV

[1] “Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:”

Peter places his title as a servant before his position as an apostle, because he was a servant first. He also remembered the teaching and example of our Savior. Jesus taught the disciples that they were to be servants of the Most High God. As believers, we should be mindful that we are servants of the Lord Jesus.

He addresses those who have obtained “like precious faith.” What a blessing to know that salvation is for all who put their faith in Christ. The phrase, “like precious faith,” means that our salvation is equally valued. In other words, each believer that Peter was writing to had the same promises and privileges that accompanied salvation. God has no special children, but He treats each one as if they were His only child. I am thankful that our Heavenly Father shows grace to all of His children. He gives each one the same privileges and rights to the Throne Room and access to His presence.

Let us fast forward to our present day. We, as believers, can claim the same rights that accompany salvation as the saints in this text. The reason is because of our “like precious faith.” Salvation is not for just a select few, but for all who will come to Christ in faith.

Peter goes on to say that we have obtained our salvation through the righteousness of Jesus Christ. “In my hand no price I bring, but simply to Thy cross I cling.” If it had not been for Calvary, we would have no hope of being saved. The cross itself cannot save us, but the Savior who died on it can. Remember that many men died the same way before Jesus did, but their cross meant nothing. It was the sinless life of the Divine Son of God that made the difference. Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood so that you and I could obtain this like precious faith. His righteousness was imputed unto us and brought us salvation. Thank God the blood covers all of our sins.

When we stand before God, it is not what we have done that will make us worthy to enter into Heaven’s gates, but what He did for us. As the songwriter said, “When He sees me, He sees the blood of the Lamb. He sees me as worthy and not as I am.” Dear reader, I challenge you to share your like precious faith with someone today.
