“Do Not Go Astray”

James 1:16  [16] “Do not err, my beloved brethren.” We are encouraged in this verse not to go down the path of deception and compromise. So many around us have changed their doctrine, their convictions, and their principles. They play the role of a victim or a martyr, attacking those who are still holding the line. The reality is that they are convicted by their conscience because they have erred from the truth, and refuse to budge.  I have two important questions on my mind when I consider this thought, “Why did they go astray?” and “How can I keep …

“The Deadly Triangle of Sin”

James 1:15  [15] “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” The last word in our verse is the word, “death”. If you look back through the verse from the word “death”, you will notice something rather interesting. Death is the child of sin and the grandchild of lust. Lust gives birth to sin, and sin gives birth to death. Together they form the deadly triangle of sin!  The fourteenth verse revealed that temptation and lust come together. Now, temptation and lust can produce nothing within themselves, but the seed …

“Defining the Moment”

James 1:14  [14] “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.” Our verse begins by telling us that every man is tempted. This is a fact that we all know, and have experienced. No matter who you are, or how long you have been serving God, temptation is something that we all must face. If we fail to deal with temptation, then temptation will deal with us.  The question on my mind is, “When do we face temptation?” Can we define the very moment that it begins? The answer is yes we …

“Don’t Blame God”

James 1:13  [13] “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:” James goes from dealing with trials to dealing with temptations. The reason is because often times when trials come into our lives, the Devil sees that as an opportunity to tempt us. The Lord sends trials into our lives to bring the best out of us. Satan brings temptations into our lives to bring the worst out in us. The Lord’s goal is to use trials to help us spiritually, while Satan’s …
